Stubbornness vs Fortitude

While reading and taking photos, this question popped up into my head. Since I was unsure as to their literal meanings, I consulted a dictionary.

Stubborn - Firm as a stub or stump; stiff; unbending; unyielding; persistent; hence, unreasonably obstinante in will or opinion; not yielding to reason or persuasion;

Fortitude - That strength or firmness of mind which enables a person to encounter danger with coolness and courage, or to bear pain or adversity without murmuring, depression, or despondency; passive courage; resolute endurance; firmness inconfronting or bearing up against danger or enduring trouble.

I guess in the first thoughts of comparison, stubbornness is armed with pride which translates into foolish behavior, and fortitude is armed with reason which leads to humble behavior.

So then what is the assessment of one that blocks attacks? stubborn or fortitude  ergo foolish or wise?
